The recent snowfall in Denver in late October gave us a glimpse into the winter months ahead. Even though the snow has melted and temperatures have temporarily risen, there’s a hint of more snowfall in the air.
Soon, we will be embracing the cold, enjoying the snow, and making the most of the chilly season. And the best part? You don’t have to travel in traffic to mountain towns like Breck and Vail for a taste of winter magic. There are some fun local wintery adventures, both new and old, very close to and in the Mile High City.
1. Rooftop ‘Ice’ Skating at Pindustry On Ice, Greenwood Village:
After you are done ice skating, you can head down to the main level for duck pin bowling, arcade games, cocktails, and more! This is a great place to bring your RMFlex workout buddies, a date, or family! Pindustry is only about a 14-24 minute drive from Rocky Mountain Flex.
Also, they are hosting their grand opening party on November 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring a silent disco, snow machine, 360-degree photo booth, hot chocolate bar, ice luge, and more. Remember to dress up in your best 80s-themed winter gear to win a day Ski Pass to A-Basin!
2. Downtown Denver Rink at Skyline Park Presented by Southwest:
For more classic winter fun, head to the Downtown Denver Rink at Skyline Park, a beloved tradition in the Mile High City since 2009. Skyline Park is at the heart of
Denver’s downtown located between 15th and 18th streets along Arapahoe Street. With skyline views, this outdoor ice skating rink offers complimentary skating if you bring your own ice skates. Otherwise, skate rentals for adults are $11 and $9 for kids 12 and under. Opening day is on Monday, November 20th, 2023 at 5 p.m. and runs through February, depending on the weather. So bring your family and friends for a fantastic day or evening of ice skating, surrounded by festive decorations and the urban spirit of downtown Denver.
Make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to ice skate there during the 2023 and 2024 winter seasons because the city is planning to fully update Skyline Park. It will be closed for renovations from November 2025 through the end of 2026 to make it even better than ever!

3. Colorado’s Newest Ski Area, Hoedown Hill near Fort Collins:
Exciting news for Denver skiers and snowboarders! Hoedown Hill is Windsor, CO’s newest ski area about 14 miles southeast of Fort Collins. The hill is located at the highest point of Windsor at Raindance National Golf Course and is set to open its slopes fully by Christmas 2023. This unique year-round activity center boasts skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snow tubing opportunities in the winter season. While the hill offers about 120 feet of vertical gain, it features runs ranging from green to black, two terrain parks, and even nighttime skiing. Forget traditional lifts; Hoedown Hill will have four moving carpets instead of gondolas. Hoedown Hill is claiming that Windsor will be the home of the longest tubing hill in America. Without traffic, it’s only an hour’s drive from RMFlex. Not bad for a close skiing and snowboarding option near Denver!
And that’s not all – in the summer, get ready for mountain biking, hiking, ziplining, and concerts for a fun-filled experience throughout the year.

4. Echo Mountain in Idaho Springs:
Nestled just 35 miles from Rocky Mountain Flex in downtown Denver, Echo Mountain has 60 acres of skiable area.
